This Black Friday lifetime deal checklist takes about ten minutes, and it is the ten minutes I wish I had spent before half of my own LTD purchases.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday (this year November 27 and November 30, 2026) are when lifetime deals feel most urgent. Countdown timers, "last chance" emails, extra discounts that end at midnight. That pressure is the point. It is also how I ended up with a pile of lifetime licenses I never used, and a few for products that later stopped working.
So before you click buy, run through this. Each step takes a minute or two.
Minute 1: Name the job
Write one sentence: "I will use this for ___ starting this week."
If you cannot fill the blank with a real task, close the tab. A tool you would not use this month will not matter when it disappears. This one question would have saved me most of my unused deals.
Minute 2: Check what you already own
Open your AppSumo, RocketHub or Dealify purchase history. Many of us already own a tool that does the same job, bought in last year's sale. If you do, the honest choice is to use that one first.
Minute 3: Read the deal terms, not the headline
Scroll to the plan and terms section and look for:
- what "lifetime" covers: all future updates, or only the current plan
- monthly limits: credits, words, sites, contacts
- what is excluded: add-ons, white-label, new features "coming soon"
- how many codes you need for the features you actually want
Buy what the page lists today. A roadmap is a hope, not part of your license.
Minute 4: Find the refund window
Check how long you can get your money back and who handles it. A marketplace guarantee is different from a deal the vendor manages itself. Put the last refund date in your calendar now, while you are still excited.
Minute 5: Look at the 1-star reviews first
Sort reviews by lowest rating. You are not looking for perfection. You are looking for patterns: support that went silent, features that never arrived, bugs nobody fixes. Three people describing the same problem is a signal. A rating split between lots of 5-star and lots of 1-star reviews deserves a closer look.
Minute 6: Check if the product is alive
Look at the changelog, the founder's last replies in the Q&A tab, and the product's own blog or social accounts. Recent updates and real replies are good signs. A quiet founder and a changelog full of small fixes are not.
Minute 7: Ask how the company pays its bills
A lifetime deal is one payment. Servers, AI usage, support and salaries are monthly. Check if the product sells normal monthly plans on its own site and seems to have customers there. A tool with "unlimited" AI credits for a one-time $59 has to make that money back somewhere.
If you want the longer version of this, I wrote about why lifetime deals die and the red flags I watch for.
Minute 8: Compare against the normal price
Black Friday prices are not always the lowest. Some deals come back at the same price later, or run on several marketplaces. Check the deal's usual price and, if you can, its price history. If the "discount" only exists because of a countdown, you can wait.
Minute 9: Plan your exit
Ask: if this tool shut down in a year, what would I lose? Check that you can export your data in a normal format. Avoid putting something critical (your client sites, your email list) in a tool you cannot leave.
Minute 10: Decide, then stop browsing
Buy it, or close it. Do not keep scrolling "just to see" more deals. That is where FOMO buys happen.
If you buy, do three things the same day:
- redeem your code right away
- save the deal terms page as a PDF and keep the invoice
- use the tool for the job you named in minute 1
The short version
- Name the job you will use it for this week.
- Check you do not already own something similar.
- Read the terms and limits, not the headline.
- Note the refund deadline.
- Read the 1-star reviews.
- Make sure the product is still being updated.
- Ask how the company pays its monthly bills.
- Compare with the normal price.
- Make sure you can export your data.
- Decide, then stop browsing.
Black Friday can be a great time to pick up a tool you really need. The goal is not to buy nothing. It is to buy the one deal you will still be glad you bought next year.
